Young
Hero Award Winner
Kaelan Nelson, 15, of Purdy, brings hope to kids with cancer because he’s
fought the battle himself. Having bravely faced leukemia when he was 6,
he inspired his mother and hospital staff to run a marathon for a cure.
This year, he’s mentoring younger patients and running in the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society’s Marathon as part of the Tacoma Team in Training.
Jingle Bell Run Honoree
Sadie Jordan, 9, this year’s Arthritis
Foundation Jingle Bell Run Honoree, is another inspirational kid, braving
the onslaughts of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis with an upbeat attitude
and serving as a spokesperson and advocate of others hoping for a cure.
How Kids Can Help the

Why is that man asking for money? Why don’t
they get a job? People who work with the homeless advise parents on how
to answer kids’ questions. We suggest 13 practical ways to tap into
children’s natural compassion toward people without a home by contributing
to causes in Pierce, Thurston and Kitsap Counties.
