Highlights

It's a Doozy!
The Western Washington Fair, rich with family tradition since 1900, comes to town Sept. 8. Family favorites include farm animals, art, photography, home arts, hobby hall, exhibits, rides, top-name entertainment and strolling entertainers. New this year is Grand Kiddyland, five acres of fun featuring a 4,000 square foot train station, circa early 1900's. Also new are the Opening Weekend Bounce Back Coupon, a two-for-one coupon for return visits, and High Five Fridays, featuring $5 admission after 8:05pm on Fridays. Free concerts include Mercy Me Sept. 15, Third Day Sept. 21 and The Beach Boys Sept. 22. Visit the Web site for the complete concert lineup and ticket prices. Marquee Movies at the Capitol Theater
Multiple projectors will project moving images on the marquee of the historic Capitol Theater. Ride4US Tacoma 2006
Four family-friendly events scheduled for Sept. 23 will help raise money to purchase ultrasound machines for clinics that offer free services to pregnant women. Bike4Babies, Dash4Diapers or Trek for Toddlers takes place at Point Defiance Park. Ride one of four distances (5, 31, 62 or 100 miles), run a timed 4.5-mile race or enjoy a walk through the pristine beauty of an old-growth forest. Participants and their families are invited to enjoy the Family Fun Festival with the region's best live Christian bands, food and inflatables for the kids. Prizes will be given. Candlelight Tour Tickets
Tickets to one of the region’s most popular events, Fort Nisqually’s Candlelight Tour, go on sale Sept. 1. This magical event lets visitors eavesdrop on the past as they tour the restored Hudson’s Bay Company trading post by candlelight. Tours run 7-10pm Oct. 6 and 7. $8 adults, $6 teens, $5 ages 5 to 12; free, ages 4 and younger. This event usually sells out. Order tickets by calling 253-591-5339. $1 Carousel Rides

African American Spirituals
