Don’t Just Jump in a Lake!
Water Play Options in the Puget Sound Area

Before you think about back-to-school, take some time to enjoy the lazy, warm days of August. Beyond our beautiful lakes and beaches, there are plenty of manmade places to turn up the water fun, from Wild Waves, Tacoma’ Stewart Heights Pool and Auburn’s Rotary Spray Park to pools with extra features and public fountains.

Is Your Child Physically Ready for School?
OK – You do have to spend some time this month thinking about getting your child ready for school. Beyond shopping for new clothes and school supplies, late summer is a great time to make sure your child has a well-child check and is on track developmentally and that he does not have any problems seeing or hearing. We also update you on the latest state vaccination requirements.

Good to Grow Program
This national program with local roots helps parents of children with all kinds of special needs find the best toys. Occupational therapists have evaluated hundreds of toys for their ease of use, adaptability to children with limited mobility and usefulness in helping kids develop their skills.

Out & About: Summer Sun on Southern (Washington) Sands
Back to the fun stuff. Can we fit a beach weekend into the end of summer? A great place to go is Washington’s Long Beach peninsula, and a great time to go is during the International Kite Festival later this month. There are plenty of other sights to see, from cranberry bogs and lighthouses to forts and oyster beds.
