Pierce County Gets Fit
Responding to an epidemic of obesity and sedentary lifestyles, MultiCare Health System, the YMCA of Tacoma-Pierce County and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department are in the second year of the county-wide initiative. Here are seven ways to start the New Year on the right foot, from setting goals, to incorporating movement into your day to improving nutrition. Find links to local events and resources.

Out & About: Places to See Winter Animals
When it’s cold outside, we may slow down, but many animals, including wolves, polar bears and reindeer, become more active. Three of the best places to see them are in the South Sound area, at Wolf Haven, Northwest Trek and Point Defiance Zoo. Round off your winter excursions with a trip to Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah, home of one of the country’s largest reindeer herds.
